KWUR’s very own Julie and Max, under the moniker of Chariots, played in the studio last Saturday. This is their first recording as a band, and I think they were dead on when they cited Dodos as an influence. Enjoy!

Local experimentalists Exercise recently stopped by the station to drop off some tracks from their new album, “Grandma’s House.” They actually played five songs, but everything was sequenced together so beautifully that we decided to keep them intact as two separate tracks (with the interview in between). Check out pictures from the in-studio and the intricately spaced-out tunes below.

Kansas City’s Capybara opened for Casiotone For The Painfully Alone at Off Broadway a few weekends ago, but before they took the stage, they played a few tunes in KWUR’s studio. Rock n roll music and an entertaining conversation followed, both of which we present to you here. Bonus points if you can guess which movie the samples in the song came from.

stack sessions – bobby bare, junior

Bobby Bare Jr. and Band (sometimes also known as the Young Criminals’ Starvation League) stopped by the station last week for some talk and some tunes.

We discussed: Shel Silverstein, America, guilty pleasures, bitter defeats (a failed Grammy bid as a young boy, an unsuccessful audition for the role of Shrek in the Broadway musical adaptation). These are some of the best recordings we’ve done so far (imho), so enjoy and make sure to pick up one of Bobby’s new albums and catch him live the next time he’s in town.
