Album Review: Mayer Hawthorne, "A Strange Arrangement" by

Weird album. Guy with a singing voice that sounds like a slightly flat Elvis Costello makes an album that sounds very specifically like Detroit sweet soul (think Spinners, but also Dells, Delfonics). Somehow makes a weird sort of sense, like a James Chance record. Also, odd, too perfect, modern instrumentation.

Play: 3, 4+(great cover), 5(a bit quicker), 6++(kooky, good), 12

P.S. in certain photos, this guy looks like a clone of old music/events director Mike Sher.
